Be Content, part 2 - 9/27/2026 - Watch on You Tube
| Heb. 13:6 |
As a quick recap from last week... Paul
admonishes us to refuse covetous conversation and be content
with what we have. |
| Exo. 20:17 |
The Ten Commandments tells us not to covet
anything that is our neighbor's - house, wife, servants, or
possessions. Yet all the world tells us that only by getting
what we covet will we be happy. Sin has pleasure for a
season (Heb. 11:25b), but the end is death. (Rom 6:21b) |
| Luke 12:11-end |
One of the major issues that families fight
over is inheritance. So many "Law Talk" episodes I've heard
are centered on the will. We need to guard our hearts with
all diligence (Prov. 4:23), that seemingly easy questions do
not have an underlying motive of covetousness. Even the rich
man's business decision to build bigger barns was only to
satisfy his goal of ease in retirement. While we should plan
for the future with diligence, obsessing about our 401K
reveals our dependence on that rather than God. How many
things in nature does God provide for? Countless! Yet the
nations are consumed with greedy gains. Consider the current
wars and political battles. How many are strictly coveting
after power or riches? Without covetousness how many battles
would cease? We need to assure that our own hearts have
Jesus on the throne and not material possessions. Then we
can be fully aware and waiting for His coming, and not
distracted. The fire of sin has already been kindled and the
wrath of God ready to be poured out on an ungodly world that
has rejected His offer of peace. Today is the day of
salvation. Make your peace with the Father through His Son,
Jesus, while it is yet day. Be ready for His soon return!
Remember - "godliness with contentment is great gain" (1 Tim
6:6). |
All the fineries that this present world has to offer cannot be
compared to what awaits God's servants in the world to come. The
devil, through the world's shiny things, wants to steal your heart
and redirect your attention away from God's majesty. Jesus said He
was going to prepare a place for us (John 14:2-3). Choose to dwell
with Him and not in the world that will be consumed with fire.
Remember Lot's wife (Luke 17:32).
Amen. God bless you. -- Pastor
Paul
